Level set topology optimization of load carrying battery packs

In this study, the optimum design of load carrying battery packs that can also exchange heat with a coolant is presented. The level set topology optimization method used as tool. flow modeled using Darcy potential flow, and transfer convection-diffusion equation. displacement field computed thermo-elasticity model. A multi-objective minimizes linear combination structural compliance, average temperature cells, pressure drop across coolant. As numerical examples, we present study pack module placed inside an aircraft wing. efficiency optimized designs are demonstrated by showcasing their multifunctional nature—they reduce in cells exchanging generated all while sustaining given load.
